Terms of Service

FactorTwo — Authenticator & Autofill (Chrome extension) and factortwo.app · Effective October 12, 2026

The short version: FactorTwo keeps your two-factor accounts on your own device and fills in codes for you. Because we never hold your data or your keys, you are responsible for your device, your password and your recovery code, and we can't recover anything you lose. The software is provided “as is”.

1. Agreement

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the FactorTwo browser extension (the “Extension”) and this website, factortwo.app (the “Site”), together the “Service”. By installing or using the Service you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Statement. If you don't agree, please don't install or use it.

2. What FactorTwo is

The Extension stores your two-factor authentication (2FA) accounts in your browser, generates one-time codes from them, and fills the matching code into web pages that ask for it. It can also create optional encrypted backups and import or export your accounts. The Site describes the Extension and publishes our policies. FactorTwo is a convenience tool: it is not a bank, a guarantee of account security, or a substitute for the recovery options offered by the services you protect.

3. Your license and what you may not do

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the Extension for your own personal or internal business use, subject to these Terms.

You agree not to:

4. Your data and your responsibilities

Your accounts, secret keys and backups are yours. They are stored on your device, and we do not receive them. In return, you are responsible for:

Because we never have your keys, we cannot reset your password, recover your vault, or restore lost or deleted backups.

5. Optional third-party services

Some features connect to services we don't operate, such as Microsoft OneDrive (if you choose OneDrive backup), Dropbox (if you choose Dropbox backup), your browser's sync storage (if you choose sync backup), and Gmail in an open browser tab (for emailed codes). Those services are run by other companies and governed by their own terms and privacy policies. We aren't responsible for them, and you are responsible for following their terms.

6. Beta and experimental features

Features labeled beta or experimental, including reading emailed codes and links from a Gmail tab, may not work on every page or at all, may change, and may be removed. Please double-check codes and links they provide.

7. Updates and availability

We may update, change, suspend or discontinue the Service or any feature at any time. The Extension may update itself through your browser's extension store. We don't promise that the Site or any feature will always be available, uninterrupted or error-free, or that every website will accept the codes or autofill FactorTwo provides.

8. Open-source and third-party components

FactorTwo includes open-source components that are licensed under their own terms. Nothing in these Terms limits any rights you have under those licenses.

9. Ownership and feedback

The FactorTwo name, logo, design and software belong to us or our licensors (apart from open-source components), and these Terms give you no rights in them beyond the license in section 3. If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them freely and without obligation to you.

10. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will meet your needs, work without interruption, or be free of errors or vulnerabilities. No security tool is perfect, and you use FactorTwo at your own risk.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or access to accounts, arising from or related to your use of (or inability to use) the Service, even if we were told it could happen. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the claim (which may be zero). These limits apply to the extent allowed by law; nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.

12. Ending your use

You can stop using the Service at any time by uninstalling the Extension, which removes the data stored on your device. We may suspend or end your access to the Site, or stop making the Extension available, at any time. Sections that by their nature should continue after that, including sections 4 and 8 to 11, will continue.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will change the effective date above, and for significant changes we will say so in the Extension's update notes. If you keep using the Service after an update, you accept the updated Terms.

14. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be handled by the courts of that state, except that nothing here removes any mandatory consumer rights you have under the laws of the place where you live.

15. General

These Terms and the Privacy Statement are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. If we don't enforce a provision, that isn't a waiver of it. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms without our consent.
